Hey everyone! Sorry for any delay. This is Mr. Yip back in the line. I really enjoyed my first ever day in Taipei, Taiwan, seeing a very different environment in a different country. I honestly miss California and the United States a lot (especially Los Angeles). In Taipei, everything is in either Taiwanese or Chinese (Mandarin). I learned quite a bit of Chinese (Mandarin) since 4th grade and can write some traditional Chinese characters. However, my needed Chinese is still very limited. Yikes!! I have been using the Hong Kong style, but trying to use as much Chinese as possible.
When it comes to learning Chinese, speaking is the most important part of learning because when you are going to China or Taiwan, or even some Chinese restaurants, speaking Chinese is mandatory or very much appreciated for great service. Writing is not as important because when you travel, you tend to speak more than write.
Anyway, back to the first day. We checked into our hotel after a long red-eye flight from California and then walked around to find restaurants. There were a lot of interesting restaurants. We ended up eating lunch at a dim sum place on the 2nd floor of our hotel. The food wasn’t as good as the Sam Woo Restaurant in Los Angeles or most dim sum restaurants back in the U.S., but at least, it tasted pretty good.
We then walked to the SOGO store 1 metro station south of ours. The store was 11 stories tall and had a lot of variety to it. I loved seeing all the crowds, and especially, a Taiwanese orchestra playing several songs from Disney movies, including Frozen and Pocahontas.
After walking we got to-gos from the food court at the SOGO, before taking the MRT back to our hotel.
I really enjoyed my dinner and eating delicious Taiwanese food for the first time in a very long time. Then, I spent more time drawing.
